Background

Resilia is a venture-backed, "tech for good" startup developing SaaS solutions for nonprofit organizations to become high-performing and enable funder enterprises (corporations, cities, and private foundations) to measure and scale the impact of their grant deployments.

The internal Design System, Birdsong, had not kept pace with development and was preventing the rapid release of high-quality experiences to keep Resilia’s competitive advantage in the market.

Resilia had begun branching into new marketing opportunities with government grantmakers. Adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a requirement for all vendors doing business with State and Federal government entities.

The Design Challenge

Increased variance and inconsistent UX resulted from detaching components from Figma for one-off variants, leading to the redundant creation of similar components resulting in additional design overhead in reconciling styles across teams.

The Engineering Challenge

The lack of governance and standardization led to increased overhead due to rebuilding existing components, and extended ramp-up time pushing back launch windows of business-critical features.

The Business Challenge

Lack of compliance with the ADA left Resilia vulnerable to 7 figure lawsuits and prevented new market opportunities with government grantmakers.
